Re: Lay Vegan's "#NameTheTrait is a Terrible Argument for Veganism" - Response

Already we've reached another term you're trying to raise disagreement on. Obviously intellectual dishonesty refers to a particular kind of dishonesty, but to say it is not related to honesty at all is just absurd. It's sometimes said that ordinary dishonesty is about lying to others, while intelle...

Re: Greetings from England

brimstoneSalad You say that negative rights are absolute, this was mentioned on the Tom Regan thread, and I was a little bit stumped because from what I've seen most vegans (on discord) do not primarily hold it to such a degree. Most people pick and choose, and take things only to an arbitrary exte...

Re: Lay Vegan's "#NameTheTrait is a Terrible Argument for Veganism" - Response

You call my stance intellectually dishonest (how do you know I'm not being honest?) and then claim I'm the one asserting things about the authenticity of your moral propositions? Let that irony sink in. Non-cognitivism is intellectually dishonest (which doesn't mean the same thing as old fashioned ...

Re: Lay Vegan's "#NameTheTrait is a Terrible Argument for Veganism" - Response

Philo can't be judged as calm, civil, or collected when he refuses to even enter the discussion, just like I am doing. There are certain characters of people who are not worth discussing with because they won't engage you honestly. Like Red said, it's a requirement on this forum that both sides adh...

Re: Organic or loose fruit and vegetables?

Definitely choose to avoid the plastic; that makes much larger a negative impact than any other differences. It also implies that the plastic was needed because the produce has been shipped farther etc. (a smaller impact, but worth considering all other things being equal). Like carnap said, organic...

Re: Lay Vegan's "#NameTheTrait is a Terrible Argument for Veganism" - Response

As far as boxing myself into to a set of terms goes I'd identify as a non-cognitivist. That's the more intellectually dishonest of the options for rejecting realism, I'll explain why: As a non-cognitivist, it must be your belief that when I say "Killing animals unnecessarily is wrong", that I am ac...

Re: Lay Vegan's "#NameTheTrait is a Terrible Argument for Veganism" - Response

I was really trying hard to give as much charity as I could to your comment brimstoneSalad , but when you say that my position is actually that of a moral realist it really threw me for such a loop that I don't think it's even possible for me to engage in a discussion with you. There's too vast a d...

Re: Grass fed beef is more vegan than any other food in the supermarket

Hey I just read a article titled "why crops don't kill more animals than pastured cows" and it showed multiple studied where they tracked mice while the fields were being plowed. Most of the time no mice died but one out of the three studies showed that a couple did die. Compared to pastured lands ...

Re: Lay Vegan's "#NameTheTrait is a Terrible Argument for Veganism" - Response

Human_Garbage You might want to mention Lay Vegan and even Margaret Hayek (who was the main creator of the other argument you mentioned) regarding the NTT matters. In terms of ontology, Porphyry 's response above was brilliant and I don't think I can say it any better. We have an article on the ske...

Re: Greetings from England

Welcome, and congrats on your successful reduction! As to your question, I think that relates to burden of proof, which can be a complicated topic. You can take an extreme position in rejecting anything that's not proved and demanding proof of any claim, or the opposite (accepting everything), but b...
