Greetings from Serbia!

Post by Not The Real JReg »

Hello vegan friends! I'm a vegan doctor living in Serbia.

I’ve been vegan for three years, mainly for ethical reasons, although health is also important. In my first year, I had a lot of struggles with going vegan as I really enjoy the taste of meat and also the eggs, and relapsed on at least two occasions. However, I am happy to report that I have managed to overcome these difficulties.

I’ve had a few bad experiences with some other vegan groups as I’ve found that some people there hold some attitudes that I consider incompatible with my principles. Many of them prioritize soft sciences over hard sciences, or worse, discount science altogether in favour of pseudoscientific beliefs such as opposition to GMOs, support for alternative medicine, or opposition to nuclear power. I think that these sorts of beliefs can be very harmful to the vegan community, and if we want to move forward, we must challenge them at every turn.

Although I don't disrespect the study, I don't have a lot of respect for computer scientists and linguists. In my experience at least they tend to be arrogant and full of themselves. They all try to publish these papers no one reads or cares about, or try to make some sort of coding language that has no utility at all. They often end up being complete nonsense, wastes of time, or just simply wrong.

Most of my hobbies revolve around debunking pseudoscience and pseudohistory, such as belief in the flat earth, climate change denialism, holocaust denialism, as well as debating extremist political ideologies, particularly anarcho-capitalism. Most of the time my efforts to debunk these beliefs are fruitless, as there are a lot of people who will believe whatever they want to believe, regardless of what the facts actually are, however I’ve managed to change a few minds which is good.

My English may be OK, but it is my 4th language. I've only started learning it many months ago. I am open to criticism to my speaking ability.

I’m also really interested in politics. Ideologically, I consider myself to be a democratic socialist and I am a member of the Socialist Party of Serbia. I’m a big fan of the YouTuber Jreg who makes a lot of humorous politics related content (my name was inspired from his worst enemy, JReg).

I’m rather interested in philosophy. I’ve been heavily influenced by Jeremy Bentham’s utilitarian beliefs, although I’d consider myself more of an altruist. In either case, an unselfish consequentialist approach is what I believe is needed, as opposed to egoism or deontological beliefs such as Kantianism, Natural Moral Law or the Non-Aggression Principle (Although I think that last one is more of a meme than anything else at this point, and I think that very few people unironically believe it).

I look forward to discussing with everyone.

Hey JReg! We have a lot in common.
I'm surprised you know about Jreg considering your location. I'm actually one of his top Patrons.

You seem to be quite knowledgeable! Feel free to start a discussion on anything you like. :)

Thank you Red.

As with most people I found Jreg through his political compass rap. It's nice to see you support him.

Teo, quit being rude to new forum members (we have a hard enough time getting new ones).
Really though, Teo? Have you stooped that low that you must resort to childish things like this? I'm convinced you are the one trolling, and just trying to project that unto me.

If you want to discuss this matter with @JReg, I will split it into a new thread. Don't be rude to him just because you disagree.
